I obtained my fingers on it only after it had done the rounds with a number of the senior students. The seeker wants meaning. He wants to know why he lives and dies, what is the nature of God or if there is a God, he wants to know an ultimate answer that will satisfy once and for all the questions of life. The problem though, is the nature of the mind. The seeker wants to find ‘the’ answer to everything through his mind, but the mind can really only focus on strands of information. The mind is not very good with holistic concepts, much less universal (in the grandest sense) ones. It is quite good with details though, and that is mainly what the seeker sifts through: details.

It is both said that God is in the details and the devil is in the details. Both things are true at different times, but details are after all limited and countable- and always will be. People speak of seeing the universe as one inseparable thing, but it is very difficult indeed for humans to grasp that as a reality. It’s not how are mind works.

Therefore the best way to seek is by not seeking. That is very difficult for the seeker, because truth be told the habit of seeking by examining the network of details is so ingrained that it has become a vocation that the seeker can no longer stop. As the song says, “I won’t find what I’m after till the day I die.” Deep down, the seeker knows that.

As much as I hate to say it, I believe firmly that our existence is a mystery that we will never comprehend and probably were not meant to. There is just too many things that the present human mind cannot interpret. And that, as a final answer, is probably just as good as any other.
